About Barefoot Dancing

Barefoot Dancing album is about vulnerability and also tuning into the earth around us.

Lindell states “This album is about slowing down; listening more deeply to vulnerability, raw truth, and allowing feelings to flow.”  Some call it the divine feminine, the yin receptive energy, often represented by the moon or water.

The impetus for the album was a raven.  Kristin was up near Algonquin park and “a Raven called to me and I haven't been the same since.  I decided to follow her, and she led me to the shining water.”  Nine songs and many shows later I'm devoted to listening to my inner feminine.  The wise water that guides me into creativity, vulnerability and spirit.  ‘Raven’ is one of the songs on the album, In Haida legends, Raven is the messenger who brings Water back to the people.  We are all thirsty, our souls are parched, Music connects us to spirit, so Lindell says, “I'm going to the well, to the ocean, to the rivers and I'm bringing us back all the songs that can nourish us.”

“Water is a metaphor for spirit, and also a symbol of the yin or feminine energy that our society needs so badly.  I hope that these songs help people to tune in to their hearts, souls, slow down and find their own creative voice.”  ‘To the River’ is a song about the women who walked around the Great Lakes, to try to raise awareness about water.  71 communities have boil water advisories in Canada, so I’m speaking up about this issue. ‘Mermaid’ tells the story of a woman who is “salt and waves and tears,” while her partner is “earth and fire”.  ‘Shifting Sand’ was inspired by a trip to Cortes Island where Kristin was mesmerized by the impermanence of Island life, the tides “Now is a moment a raven’s cry, now is the heron still in the bay, now is the oyster deep in her shell, now is the driftwood carved by the waves.”

With water as the inspiration, I created choral arrangements with arranger Mim Adams,  for two of the songs from the album “To the River” and “Raven”.  I am working with local singers to rehearse the songs and there will be a mini choir performing at the album release.
